Windows XP and Vista Registry Cleaners, Do They Matter?
By Jeffrey H Strassman
I recently recommended one of my customers use a registry cleaner periodically to keep his PC from building up registry corruption. This would get his computer's speed back up to normal. He told me he was surprised to hear me recommend a registry cleaner because he read an article demeaning their use. He asked if I was really sure he should be using one.
I will use this article to explain registry corruption is a very real thing. It can raise havoc with a computer's performance. I hope to put to rest the myth that registries never need to be cleaned and in fact, using a good one can save your computer's life!
Normal Computer Use Will Cause Registry Corruption
It is true there are some registry cleaners available that are not very good, but usually these are free cleaners and like with anything else, you get what you pay for. Still, cleaning a computer's registry with the right registry cleaner can get a computer that is slow and crashing on occasion back up and running at 100% speed and error free once again.
I seen more cases than I can count where a computer started to crash frequently or become very slow and the cuase was corruption in the registry. Furthermore, is in these cases there is no other viable plan of action other than to use a registry cleaner to get such a computer operating normally once again .
New OS's Need To Be Corruption Free
It wasn't long ago registry corruption went on behind the scene and was hardly noticed. Enter Windows XP and Vista. These operating systems are much larger than their predecessors and because of this, corruption disrupts their operations and in turn causes them to be more difficult to keep running at top speed.
Registry corruption will cause a computer to slow down. Sometimes this slowing down can be quite significant. Registry corruption will also cause errors and crashes. These things seem to mock the presence of spyware or viruses. Still, corruption must be dealt with when it is present.
Registry Cleaners Make It So Anyone Can Clean a Registry
I don't know what these people who think registry cleaners are useless do when their computers slow down and spyware or viruses are not the problem. In my experience, when this situation occurs, it is always registry corruption causing the problem. I personally don't know how I'd get along without a registry cleaner.
Remember, a PC that is slow and generally speaking, is not acting right may be doing so because of spyware and/or viruses. Since these things can cause harm to your financial health as well as your PC so it is wise to run a virus/spyware cleaner regularly. However, if you are reasonably sure your computer is free of spyware and viruses and you are still having problems with it, probably your registry is corrupt and you need to run a registry cleaner.
Of course, if there is no registry corruption, you will have to bring the computer to a professional. However, I have fixed many a sick computer with a registry cleaning, so I suggest you make sure you have no corruption before you bring your computer to the repair shop.
